FROM THE EDITOR
Editor in Chief
Dear Readers,
March is more than just another month on the calendar—it’s a global celebration
of the strength, resilience, and achievements of women everywhere. As we step
into International Women’s Month, we are reminded of the countless women who
have paved the way for progress, challenged barriers, and created opportunities
where none existed before.
This month, we honor the changemakers of history—the women who fought for
our rights, demanded equality, and shattered ceilings in every field imaginable.
But we also celebrate the women of today—the leaders, entrepreneurs, artists,
and everyday warriors who continue to push boundaries and redefine what’s
possible.
At She Talks, we believe in the power of stories, community, and action. Each
woman’s journey is unique, yet our shared experiences connect us in profound
ways. That’s why this issue is dedicated to amplifying the voices of women who
inspire, empower, and lead with purpose. Whether it’s breaking into male-
dominated industries, advocating for change, or simply finding the courage to take
the next step, these stories remind us of our collective strength.
But this month is not just about reflection—it’s about momentum. It’s about taking
action, supporting one another, and making space for future generations to rise.
Let’s commit to lifting each other up, breaking outdated norms, and ensuring that
progress is not just celebrated, but sustained.
As you read through this issue, I invite you to reflect on your own power, your own
journey, and the impact you can make. Whether you’re mentoring another woman,
advocating for equal opportunities, or simply standing firm in your truth,
remember: you are part of this movement, and your voice matters.
Let’s continue to inspire, lead, and thrive—together.

nternational Women's Day is more than just
a date on the calendar—it is a global rallying
cry to honor women's achievements and
confront the systemic inequalities that
continue to hold us back. This year, the
theme #AccelerateAction is both a
challenge and an opportunity: it calls for
By Kim-Adele Platts
collective momentum to break down barriers
and speed up progress toward gender parity.
The sobering reality is that, at our current rate,
full gender equality won't be achieved until
2158. That's 133 years away. Five generations of
women and girls will be left to grapple with pay
gaps, limited opportunities, and unconscious
bias. Waiting is not an option. We need to act
boldly and decisively.

ACCELERATE
Why ACTION?
Gender inequality is not just a moral or ethical
issue—it is a global crisis that holds us all back.
According to research by McKinsey, closing the
gender gap in labour markets alone could add $12
trillion to the worldwide economy. Yet, women
remain underrepresented in leadership,
overrepresented in low-paying jobs, and
disproportionately burdened by unpaid care
work.
Beyond the workplace, systemic challenges like
gender-based violence, restricted access to
education, and lack of healthcare
disproportionately affect women and girls. These
issues do not exist in isolation; they are deeply
intertwined, compounding inequality and slowing
progress.
By focusing on accelerating action, we embrace
the urgency required to dismantle these systems
of oppression. Every day we wait is a missed
opportunity for justice, innovation, and growth.

HOW DO WE
ACCELERATE
ACTION?
1. Break Down Barriers in Leadership
Women comprise nearly half the global
population yet hold only a fraction of leadership
roles. To empower women, leaders, businesses,
governments, and communities must commit to
intentional actions like gender quotas,
mentorship programs, and succession planning.
2. Champion Equal Pay and Economic
Empowerment
Women are still paid less than men for the same
work across industries and geographies.
Enforcing transparency in pay structures,
strengthening labour protections, and investing
in women-owned businesses are critical to
closing the wage gap.
3. Challenge Bias and Stereotypes
Unconscious bias is one of the most pervasive
barriers to equality. Education and training at
every level—from classrooms to boardrooms—are
vital to uprooting ingrained stereotypes and
promoting equitable practices.
4. Support Women in STEM
Women remain underrepresented in science,
technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Promoting STEM education for girls, creating
pathways for women in tech, and addressing
workplace biases in these fields are essential for
ensuring their inclusion in future industries.
5. Tackle Gender-Based Violence
Gender-based violence remains one of the most
significant violations of human rights.
Governments, organizations, and communities
must prioritize prevention, accountability, and
survivor support.
6. Invest in Intersectionality
Gender inequality does not affect all women
equally. Race, disability, socioeconomic status,
and sexual orientation often amplify
discrimination. Adopting an intersectional lens
ensures that the most marginalized women are
not left behind.
