As the calendar turns to a new year, we are reminded of the beauty of fresh
beginnings and the promise of transformation. For many of us, New Year’s
resolutions serve as a guiding light, pointing us toward the goals we’d like
to achieve and the growth we aspire to experience. Yet, as I reflect on my
journey and the journeys of so many incredible women I’ve had the
privilege to know, I’ve come to realize that true growth doesn’t come from
mere resolutions; it comes from rising up.
Rising up is more than a mantra—it’s a call to action. It’s about embracing
our authentic selves, stepping into our power, and refusing to let
challenges define our story. As women, we often face unique hurdles:
balancing professional aspirations with personal commitments,
challenging societal expectations, and breaking through barriers in
industries that were not always designed with us in mind. And yet, year
after year, we rise.
The past year, like so many others, has been filled with highs and lows.
We’ve celebrated wins that have lifted our spirits and reminded us of our
strength. Perhaps you’ve reached a career milestone, deepened a personal
relationship, or discovered a newfound passion. These moments of
triumph are worth savoring and remembering as we look ahead.
But alongside the highs, many of us have faced challenges that tested our
resolve. Maybe you encountered unexpected setbacks at work,
experienced moments of self-doubt, or navigated personal struggles that
felt insurmountable at the time. These low points are not failures; they are
the stepping stones to growth and resilience. They teach us valuable
lessons about our capacity to adapt, persevere, and rise again.
In the spirit of the new year, I want to share three guiding principles that
have helped me rise and can help you too as you embark on your journey in
2025:
1. Lead with Vision
Every great achievement starts with a clear vision. What does success look
like to you this year? Whether it’s growing your career, nurturing your
relationships, or making a difference in your community, take the time to
map out your vision. When you lead with purpose, the path forward
becomes clearer, even when obstacles arise.

2. Build Your Resilience
Life will inevitably throw challenges your way, but resilience is what transforms setbacks into
stepping stones. Reflect on your past experiences: How did you overcome difficulties? How did those
moments shape you? Use those lessons as a foundation for your strength. Remember, resilience isn’t
about never falling; it’s about always getting back up. Embrace the mindset that every challenge is an
opportunity to learn and grow.
3. Empower Others
The journey to rising up isn’t one we take alone. When we empower those around us, we create a
ripple effect of strength and possibility. Whether it’s mentoring a colleague, supporting a friend, or
simply sharing your story, your actions have the power to inspire others to rise alongside you. When
women support women, we create a powerful community capable of achieving the extraordinary.
As we step into 2025, let this be the year where you not only dream but act. Let this be the year where
you rise above self-doubt, embrace your potential, and set a powerful example for others to follow.
Take the time to celebrate your wins, no matter how small, and give yourself grace during the tough
times. Remember, progress is not always linear, and every step forward—no matter how small—is
worth celebrating.
At the Lead and Empower Her She Talks community, we believe in the transformative power of
women coming together to share their stories, support one another, and create lasting impact. I
encourage you to join us in this mission and make this year a chapter of empowerment and bold
leadership.
Let 2025 be the year you rise with courage, kindness, and a fierce determination to make your dreams
a reality. Together, we can rise. Here’s to a year of courage, growth, and endless possibilities.
As we step into 2025, there’s an undeniable sense of possibility in the air—a
chance to start fresh, redefine priorities, and embrace growth. For many
women, this is the perfect time to take control of an area that can feel
overwhelming but holds immense transformative power: personal finances.
Financial literacy isn’t just about managing dollars and cents. It’s about
reclaiming control over your life, making confident decisions, and creating
opportunities for yourself and your loved ones. It’s a cornerstone of
empowerment and a key to designing a future on your terms.

Empowering Women
Through Financial Literacy

Start with Awareness
WHY FINANCIAL
EDUCATION MATTERS
FOR WOMEN
Historically, women have faced unique financial
challenges, from pay inequity to a lack of targeted
education. These barriers often translate into
reduced confidence when it comes to managing
money or investing. But the tide is changing. More
women than ever are stepping into financial
independence, challenging outdated norms, and
rewriting their stories.
Financial literacy is a foundational tool in this
transformation. It gives women the knowledge to
navigate complex systems, the confidence to make
informed choices, and the freedom to pursue their
goals without fear. Whether you’re aiming to break
free from debt, save for a major milestone, or start
investing, understanding your finances is the first
step.
STEPS TO FINANCIAL
INDEPENDENCE
For many, the journey to financial empowerment
begins with small, intentional actions. These
steps may seem simple, but they form the
building blocks of financial confidence.
1.
Before setting goals, it’s crucial to
understand your current financial
picture. Track your income and
expenses for a month to see exactly where your
money is going. Tools like Mint or YNAB (You
Need a Budget) can help simplify this process.
Set SMART Goals
2.
Financial goals should be Specific,
Measurable, Achievable, Relevant,
and Time-bound. For example:
For example: “Save $500 for an emergency fund
by June” is much more actionable than a vague
goal like “save money.”
Learn the Basics
3.
You don’t need to be a finance
expert to make informed decisions.
Start with the fundamentals:
Create and stick to a budget.
Understand the difference between good
debt (e.g., a mortgage) and bad debt (e.g.,
high-interest credit cards).
Build an emergency fund with three to six
months’ worth of expenses.
Leverage Technology
4.
Apps and digital tools can simplify
money management. Acorns and
Betterment make investing
accessible for beginners, while tools like Credit
Karma help monitor and improve your credit
score.
Build a Support
Network
5.
Surrounding yourself with like-
minded women who share your
goals can make a world of difference. Join a local
investment club, participate in online forums, or
engage with social media communities focused
on women’s financial empowerment.

RESOURCES FOR
2025
If financial literacy feels daunting, rest
assured that resources abound to support
your journey. Here are some of my favorites:
Books
Smart Women Finish Rich by David Bach and
Broke Millennial by Erin Lowry are excellent
starting points.
Podcasts
Tune into So Money by Farnoosh Torabi or
Brown Ambition for practical advice and
inspiration.
Courses & Workshops
Online platforms to learn personal finance
and investing basics. (HINT: I’ve got one!)
MY JOURNEY TO
FINANCIAL
CONFIDENCE
When I first began my financial journey, I felt
the same intimidation many women do. I
worried about making mistakes, not knowing
enough, and, frankly, I was terrified of losing
my hard-earned money. But I realized that
starting small—whether by creating a budget or
learning the basics of investing—made all the
difference.
The most empowering realization was that I
didn’t need to master everything at once.
Progress, not perfection, was the goal. With
each step, I gained more clarity, control, and
confidence.
I’ve seen firsthand how this transformation can
ripple outward. Women who achieve financial
independence not only elevate their own lives
but also inspire and uplift their families and
communities. This is the power of knowledge in
action.
