FROM THE EDITOR

Founder, Lead and Empower Her She Talks

Dear She Talks Family,

July is a time of sunshine, movement, and meaning. For many of us, it

brings a moment to pause, to reconnect with what matters, and to

remember that freedom—in all its forms—is worth celebrating.

Here in the United States, we mark Independence Day this month—a time

to reflect on liberty, courage, and the bold pursuit of something better.

But around the world, women are rising in their own ways—breaking

barriers, leading change, speaking truth, and redefining what leadership

looks like in every corner of the globe.

That’s the heart of She Talks. Though we may live in different countries,

speak different languages, and face different challenges, we are united by

a common belief: our stories have power, and our voices shape the future.

This issue is a celebration of that freedom—the freedom to lead, to speak,

to grow, to rise. Whether you’re building a business, launching a passion

project, or finding your footing again after a season of change, this is your

reminder: you are part of something powerful.

So wherever this month finds you—on a coast, in a city, or halfway around

the world—know that you are not alone. You are part of a global sisterhood

that believes in you, cheers for you, and rises with you.

With purpose and gratitude,

UNBECOMING THE

MYTH: THE RISE

OF SOUL-FIRST

LEADERSHIP

By Mamie-Jean Lamley

What if power doesn't come from adding more

but from releasing what never belongs to you?

What if unbecoming isn't a breakdown but the

beginning of your rise?

Unbecoming means stepping beyond what

feels safe or scripted. It stirs fear because it

challenges what you learn to accept. Yet this

path isn't about losing yourself. You

remember who you are beneath the noise, the

masks, and the myth.

You rise the moment you stop performing and start

leading from within.

You refuse to conform.

You exist to disrupt.

You show up to embody truth.

They hand you templates. They tell you how to look,

lead, speak, and succeed. Systems afraid of your

power teach you to smile when silenced, lead without

emotion, and stay small so others feel big. Even then,

you rise. You lead. You break the mold.

Leadership doesn't ask for approval. It requires alignment with your truth, your voice, and your essence.

The future belongs to the woman who remembers who she is and chooses to lead as her whole self.

Fear-based systems push you to hustle,

overperform, and disappear behind the grind.

They convince you that success demands

silence, shrinking, and self-sacrifice. You learn

to filter your brilliance to make others

comfortable. You edit your truth. You wear a

mask not because you lack strength but

because the world tells you performance

means survival.

That story no longer holds. You exist beyond

it.

You don't show up to perform. You lead. Not

from pretense or perfection.

You lead with soul, with fire, and with vision.

Authentic leadership doesn't grow from

conformity. It grows from alignment. You step

into real power the moment you stop

apologizing for your truth. That power doesn't

come from titles or tactics. It comes from the

courage to live and lead as your whole self.

More Than a Myth

You stop performing the moment you remember

who you are. You no longer seek approval. You trust

your voice, and you rise not to be seen but to

present.

When you let your gut guide you, not as a last resort

but as your first instinct, you activate something

deeper.

You drop the act.

You stop outsourcing your worth.

You align purpose with presence and let clarity

speak before you ever say a word.

Let the power of transformation begin. Not where

you transform into someone new, but return to the

truth that always resides within you.

Time to strip away the stories, remove the roles,

burn through the lies, and unlearn the limits.

In that moment, everything shifts, and the magic

begins.

You reclaim your voice and your brilliance.

You don't rise to impress, you rise to ignite.

Your presence no longer waits for permission. It

stands for power.

You don't fit into old frameworks, you create new

foundations.

You lead movements.

You live legacy.

You are not the myth they fed you.

You are the truth they could never silence.

You are not reinventing.

You are remembering.

It's your homecoming. Your return. You rise, taking

others with you.

From Performance to Power

Aligned leadership doesn't follow the rules. It

rewrites them.

You lead with empathy, emotional

intelligence, and a sense of presence. You

make decisions rooted in values, not pressure.

You serve from calling, not control.

You turn fear into trust. You choose

collaboration over hierarchy. You anchor

rather than hustle.

You attract rather than chase. You don't

perform for approval. You lead from the

truth.

Aligned leadership flows from integrity. It

centers your voice. It keeps you clear when

the world gets noisy. It lets your presence do

the speaking long before your words ever

reach the room.

Aligned Leadership

Aligned leaders shift the standard. Iconic

leaders are the new standard.

Iconic leadership stands so grounded in truth

that others rise simply by being near it. You

don't lead for ego or spotlight. You lead from

legacy, from vision, from unshakable impact.

You lead, and you lift.

You inspire and ignite.

You build systems and reimagine them.

Where aligned leadership anchors your truth,

Iconic leadership broadcasts that truth into

movements that shift culture.

You don't wait to leave a legacy. You live it.

You model it, and you multiply it.

Iconic leadership exists not to be

remembered. It exists to make people matter.

You set a new standard because you see what

becomes possible when people feel seen,

safe, and significant.

Iconic Leadership: Living the Legacy

SHE TALKS | 9

I lead with alignment, clarity, and truth.

I rise in brilliance, honor my calling, and expand my legacy with purpose.

I live the future I choose. I begin now.

The future doesn't belong to one story.

It belongs to those who lead with their soul,

Who moves in truth,

Who acts with unapologetic power.

Your rise doesn't wait for permission.

It begins with action.

Not later.

Now.

Ignite the

Power Within:

BY LAURA RUBIN

We live in a world that often teaches women to quiet their instincts, dim their brilliance, and sacrifice their well-

being at the altar of achievement and obligation. We are praised for how much we can juggle, endure, and give

away—until we wake up one day disconnected from ourselves, our bodies, and our truth.

But there’s a shift happening.

Across kitchen tables, boardrooms, yoga mats, and wide-open fields, women are rising—not by pushing

harder, but by turning inward. They are remembering that true power doesn’t come from ticking off to-do lists

or meeting external expectations; it comes from reclaiming the wild wisdom within.

RECLAIMING THE WILD WISDOM OF WOMEN

SHE TALKS | 12

Mental and Physical Health:

The Gateway to

Empowerment

The journey of self-leadership begins with a

radical act: honoring our mental and physical

health not as afterthoughts, but as non-

negotiable foundations. This means listening

when our bodies whisper instead of waiting until

they scream. It means tending to rest as fiercely

as we tend to ambition. It means saying no

without apology and yes without guilt.

Women who prioritize their well-being disrupt a

system that profits from their exhaustion. They

model a new paradigm of leadership—one where

clarity, creativity, and courage flourish from a

place of wholeness, not depletion.

SHE TALKS | 13

Self-Care as a Revolutionary Act

True self-care isn’t about bubble baths or spa days (though those can be lovely). It’s about the daily,

often unglamorous choices to nourish ourselves physically, emotionally, and spiritually. It’s about

giving ourselves space to feel, to breathe, to reconnect with what matters.

When a woman stops outsourcing her worth and starts rooting it inside herself, she becomes a force of

nature. Her self-trust deepens. Her boundaries sharpen. Her voice strengthens. And as she rises, she

invites others to rise with her.

Leading Change from the Inside Out

The women igniting change today aren’t waiting for permission or perfect conditions. They are leading

from the inside out. They are mothers, artists, entrepreneurs, activists, and everyday revolutionaries

weaving a world where aliveness matters as much as achievement, where connection matters as much

as success.

They understand that leadership isn’t about having all the answers—it’s about embodying the

questions. It’s about showing up, fully and fiercely, as themselves.

Your Invitation to Ignite

So here’s the invitation: pause. Listen. What is stirring inside you that’s ready to be unleashed?

Maybe it’s the desire to set a new boundary. Maybe it’s the need to rest, to play, to create. Maybe it’s

the call to speak up, to reach out, to step into a dream you’ve kept on hold.

Igniting the power within starts with one brave, honest choice—and then another.

As women reclaim their mental and physical well-being, as they choose self-care not as an indulgence

but as a birthright, they light the way for a world hungry for change.

Because when a woman comes home to herself, she doesn’t just transform her own life—she

transforms the world around her.

HEART

Leading with

Building a Community Where Everyone Belongs

When Rebecca Jones took the oath as the first female Mayor of San Marcos, California, she wasn’t just

stepping into a position—she was stepping into her purpose. Her rise to leadership wasn’t paved by

privilege or legacy. Instead, it was shaped by hardship, grit, and an unwavering commitment to serve

her community. From scrubbing toilets as a child to leading one of the fastest-growing cities in San

Diego County, Rebecca’s story is proof that courageous women can—and do—change the world.

By Dr. Julie Ducharme

Rebecca’s leadership journey began in East County San Diego, where her idyllic childhood was quickly

derailed by her parents’ divorce when she was just 11. The years that followed were marked by

instability, poverty, and trauma. Her mother cleaned houses to make ends meet, often with young

Rebecca by her side—literally helping scrub toilets.

“I felt like I was parenting myself,” she shared during an episode of the She CEO podcast. “I don’t want

any child to ever feel like that.”

Yet, through the pain came resilience. Supported by her grandfather and driven by a deep desire to

do more, Rebecca found an inner strength that would guide her through every season of her life—

from family responsibilities to civic leadership.

A Childhood Marked by Challenge

Before entering politics, Rebecca built

a successful career in new home sales

and entrepreneurship. She co-

founded a business with her husband

and found professional success, but it

was a proposed land-use change in

her neighborhood that would shift her

path forever. With a young daughter

at home and concern for her

community, she dove headfirst into

local issues—reading reports,

attending meetings, and making her

voice heard.

Soon, local leaders—one Democrat,

one Republican—urged her to run for

office, recognizing her intellect and

tenacity. Despite her doubts, she ran

for City Council and appointed in

2007 and elected in 2008. She would

go on to be re-elected several times

and serve as Vice Mayor before being

elected Mayor in 2018 and again in

2022.

“I didn’t think I could do it,” she

admits. “But here I am, 19 years later.

And I love it.”

From Business to

Civic Duty

A Mayor for the People

As Mayor, Rebecca Jones has redefined

what it means to lead. Her style is

approachable, transparent, and deeply

rooted in community service. Whether it’s

speaking with children at local schools or

chatting with residents in the grocery

store, she makes herself available and

accountable.

“I want people to talk to me,” she says. “I

want to know what they need.”

Her track record reflects that

commitment. Under her leadership, San

Marcos has:

Become one of California’s safest

cities, now ranked #13 in the state.

Achieved Class 1 fire agency status,

reducing insurance costs for residents.

Added or rebuilt 18 parks across the

city.

Attracted a second hospital and

expanded healthcare access.

Distributed more than $3 million in

local COVID relief to small businesses.

She also launched the city’s LEAN

department—focused on transparency,

efficiency, and smart spending. Her

mayoral reelection in 2022 came with a

strong 64% of the vote, proof that her

community trusts her leadership.

SHE TALKS | 17

Despite her success, Rebecca remains one of

only six female mayors across 18 cities in San

Diego County. Of the 100 local seats available

across city councils and county supervisor roles,

only 39 are held by women.

She’s determined to change that.

Rebecca is now running for District 5 County

Supervisor, a seat that has never been held by a

woman. Her goal? To bring her proven track

record of local leadership to the county level—

and to empower more women to run and lead.

She speaks candidly about the challenges

women face in politics: being sidelined,

dismissed, and discouraged. Even She CEO host

Dr. Julie Ducharme admitted being told “don’t

do it” when she once considered public office.

Rebecca’s advice for those aspiring to make

change? Don’t let anyone talk you out of your

purpose.

“Be courageous,” she says. “That’s what I would

tell my younger self. Courage is the key to

everything.”

Breaking Barriers for

Women in Politics

SHE TALKS | 18

Rebecca often draws a line between being a

“politician” and being a “public servant.” She

believes the former is about positioning and

popularity, while the latter is about

responsibility and trust. She’s not afraid to take

heat when necessary—especially when it comes

to staying focused on her city.

When pressured to take a public stance on

national or international issues, Rebecca stays

grounded. “I focus on what I can actually

change,” she explains. “That’s how you serve

people.”

She encourages other women leaders to “stay in

your lane,” resist distractions, and stay anchored

in their core values. Whether it’s budgeting,

public safety, or neighborhood development, her

compass remains the same: care deeply, listen

honestly, and lead boldly.

A Public Servant, Not a

Politician

Rebecca’s current initiatives include leading San

Marcos toward becoming the first “Blue Zone” in

San Diego County. The Blue Zones Project

focuses on improving longevity and community

health by shaping local environments around

wellness. For Rebecca, this is a natural extension

of her lifelong commitment to quality of life.

“I want people to live long, healthy, meaningful

lives in a city that supports them,” she says. The

city will begin its Blue Zones assessment study in

July.

Creating Blue Zones and

Healthier Communities

Rebecca is also the host of the SheEO Lead In

podcast, where she interviews women leaders

across industries. It’s another platform for

empowerment—one she never saw growing up.

Now, she’s working to ensure the next generation

Using Her Voice to Uplift

Others

If there’s one theme that underscores Rebecca’s

story, it’s authenticity. She urges all women in

leadership—whether in business, education, or

government—to hold on to who they are.

“Don’t let someone change the core of who you

are to fit into politics,” she says. “Your

authenticity is what gets you elected—and what

keeps people believing in you.”

Her Superpower:

Authenticity

As she continues her campaign for County

Supervisor, Rebecca remains committed to

grassroots efforts. She’s not backed by a

political machine—she’s supported by the

everyday residents who have seen her

leadership in action.

Her message to women everywhere?

“You don’t need to have a poli-sci degree. You

don’t need to come from a political family. You

just need to care—and be willing to work.”

With heart, grit, and courage, Mayor Rebecca

Jones is leading the way—showing us that public

service is not about power, but about people.

Looking Ahead

hears what she never did: you matter, you can

lead, and your story has power.

She speaks often to students, telling them: “Life

is hard. But if you can find something you're

excited about, don’t ever give up on it.”
